"Nothing is more special than
a beautiful portrait painting that can be handed down for generations." —Dorothy Sitka

While sketching as a child, Dorothy found that she was talented in drawing what she saw and capturing the likeness of faces around her. After classical training, this multi-skilled portrait artist developed an unmistakable talent for both oils on canvas and watercolor. To this day, painting remains her greatest passion and talent.

She has studied with Texas artist Dick Turner, and several others including Dalhart Windberg, and Daniel Greene.

Dorothy not only has the ability to paint what she sees, but is able to reach into the soul of her subject, painting each person as if she had known them for years. She can also do this with animals, and even her landscapes have a realism rarely seen in works by other painters. In her portrait studio, Dorothy captures moments that allow people to relive magic memories for years to come.

A native Texan who's had enormous success in and around the area and participated in many competitions and gallery showings, Dorothy's work is represented in the collections of corporate and business patrons. Her work has also appeared on numerous catalog covers, and her private patrons have commissioned and collected her paintings for more than twenty years.

Dorothy enjoys living in the metropolitan area of Houston, Texas, with her spouse. She loves hiking and fishing, which only strengthen her love of the natural wonders of this world. Travelling across the United States and Europe has broadened her life and art experience, and creates sketches or photos of her journeys for future reference for a painting. Her two sons are grown and married, but live close by so she can enjoy her grandchildren, who have been an inspiration and subjects of some of her painting.

She is affiliated with the Houstou Art League, American Portrait Society, and Texas Watercolor Society.
